Epidemiology of Aging
EPI 210 Winter 2017 (2 units)


& Biostatistics

OBJECTIVES

This course will provide an overview of issues and methods regarding the epidemiology of aging with a focus on common chronic diseases in older populations.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify major risk factors for major chronic diseases in older populations;
  • Understand theories of biological and social processes that underlie development of chronic diseases in aging populations and apply them to epidemiologic research; and
  • Apply epidemiologic and statistical methods to analysis of problems specific to aging populations, especially in a longitudinal context.

FORMAT

Course content will be delivered through weekely interactive lectures. These will take place on Wednesdays from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Jan. 11 to Mar. 22.

Grading is based on the following distribution:

  • Class attendance (20%)
  • Case study development (50%) and presentation (30%).
