Grant Writing Workshop on Mentored Career Development Awards
Fall 2009

OBJECTIVES

Instruction in writing successful grant applications for NIH mentored career development awards will be presented. Although the workshop uses examples from patient-oriented research career development awards (K23s), the underlying concepts for the career development plan, mentoring plan, and research plan also apply to research scientist development awards (K01s) and clinical scientist development awards (K08s).

Characteristics of successful mentored career development grant applications will be presented, including common mistakes to avoid; how to write individual components of the application; the NIH review process; and how to develop a responsive resubmission, if needed. While the focus will be on NIH mentored career development awards, the concepts taught will be applicable to most other funding sources that support mentored career development awards.
